"Central East Tokyo (CET)" was a movement that took place about 20 years ago. Described as a “complex event of art, design and architecture” and “legal squatting”, this movement, which is still talked about today, came to an end in 2010 as “CET10/OPEN END”. However, many artists and creators who took part in CET have continued to create various projects to this day.
Currently, there are more new residents and businesses in the area, and it seems that the problem seen in the early 2000s of the areas surrounding the city center hollowing out has been resolved. However, the "wholesale district" straddling Yokoyama-cho, Bakuro-cho, and Higashi Nihonbashi, which forms the core of "Central East Tokyo", is about to enter a season of full-scale change. And we are reaching a point where we have to choose what kind of town we want to make.
In the meantime, we came up with the idea of restarting CET under the theme of "OPEN START". To rediscover "unused space and time" as "unknown resources". This is also an original quality engraved in the DNA of this town, which has been established through the creation of relationships.
We mix and match 13 venues and 33 artists. This is not for the sake of the works themselves, as they can be categorized into fields like art, design, or architecture, but a mechanism that invites imagination and creation by changing the relationship between places and people.
